Mark Hawes

Mark Hawes was born in June 1970 in Fort Dix, New Jersey and raised in Ocala, Florida until the age of 15. He moved to Gilbert, South Carolina and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1989.

Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and began his military career in boot camp in Orlando, Florida. After successfully completing boot camp, Mark was sent to Elections’ Mate A school in Great Lakes, Illinois.

His next challenge would be to complete the toughest selection process the US military has to offer, BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL).

Mark graduated Class 173 on March 29, 1990 and received orders to SEAL Team 5. His first exposure to hand-to-hand techniques occurred during this time of his life when he was introduced to what is his true love in the fight world, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by a Master Chief.

Mark continued to train with friends and teammates to further hone his skills. In 1996 he sought out Fabio Santos, the leading authority on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in San Diego and found himself at home with the others who trained there.

He has continued his training and has worked with the likes of Relson Gracie in Hawaii, Dean Lister, Rolyer Gracie and many others who have helped develop his abilities as a fighter. He currently is partner/owner/operator of Coronado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where he is influencing the future of self-defense worldwide.
